Two categories of subsidies beyond the ladder (innovation activism and rapid response) finance an ecosystem that supports bottom-up organizational groups.
If you already know which category you wish to apply for, please visit the Grant Category page for that category before starting your application as there may be some minor changes to it during this cycle.

Small Business Grants: Here Are 32 You Can Apply For In 2022
If you’d like to support entrepreneurial grants by donating money or offering freebies to winners, please email Sam Priestley at [email protected] The Applicant Portal deadline in Part 2 for the FY23 Grants for Projects program has been extended for all applicants until Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. 11:59 PM EST. You don’t need to request this extension. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause your system outage today.
We strongly encourage you to register and / or renew your SAM.gov registration as soon as possible if you plan to apply for a NEA grant. This process may take several weeks.
NEA does not grant extensions ahead of the application deadlines. Organizations experiencing difficulties with the registration process should continue their efforts to complete these registrations and submit applications through Grants.gov before the deadline.
If your organization is unable to submit your application on time due to these persistent system difficulties, contact NEA personnel after Part 1 deadline with documentation of enrollment / renewal activities and a description of the failures to Sam.gov or Grants.gov that prevent – folding time. The documentation will be reviewed for any extension of terms. Thank you for your patience.
How To Apply For (and Win) A Government Grant
Instructions for Part 1 and Part 2, including application deadlines and a list of all application questions, can be found by selecting the field that corresponds to your project (eg Education, Music, Visualization, etc.) from the list at the bottom of the page.
Before applying, your organization must create and maintain up-to-date registrations at Login.gov, System for Award Management (SAM) at SAM.gov, and Grants.gov. Registering and maintaining SAM and Grants.gov accounts is always FREE.
Registration may take several weeks, so start this process early! Login.gov, SAM, and Grants.gov must be active in order to submit an entry. Complete your registrations before the application deadline. This should give you time to resolve any issues that may arise.
SAM and Grants.gov will require you to use your Login.gov username and password to log into their sites.
Capital Investment Grants Program
Go to Create Account to set up a Login.gov account. This account will give you access to many government websites, including SAM and Grants.gov.
Previously, the federal government required a Duns and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number in order to register an organization with SAM.
On April 4, 2022, the federal government switched from using the DUNS number to a new unique entity identifier, also known as “UEI”. UEI is a 12-character alphanumeric value that SAM will provide for free.
To register / change your SAM account, you must select “Yes” when completing the “Representation and Certification” section. All laureates must have these statements and certificates in order to receive the award. Your SAM registration must be current at the time of awarding the grant and for the entire duration of the award.
Need Help Deciding Which Grant Category To Apply For?
After SAM registration is activated, it may take a day or more for them to appear on Grants.gov. Verify your SAM registration before the application deadline.
You must complete the Grants.gov registration process to access the Part 1 application package (see below). To submit an application you will need the Login.gov username and password that you obtained during the registration process and you will not be able to submit your application if SAM registration is not active and current.
NEA does not have access to your SAM or Grants.gov accounts. If you have questions about these sites or need assistance, please contact them directly:
