Democratic lawmakers proposed in March to provide $100 a month to eligible taxpayers and their dependents as part of the 2022 gas refund law. The bill remains in limbo throughout the early committee stages.
In June, President Biden called for a three-month gas tax holiday that would remove the 18 cents imposed by the federal government on a gallon of gas.

But according to CNN, it’s unlikely that a gas tax break will pass Congress — and states are resisting Biden’s request to end their gas tax as well.

While states don’t appear to be suspending natural gas taxes, many are taking other steps to provide relief as prices rise and federal regulations ease. Here’s the latest on state incentives.
The biggest stimulus news from the state came from California, where Gov. Gavin Newsom approved a plan to distribute wages up to $1,050 to millions of Golden State residents. The stimulus money is intended to offset the cost of natural gas, a gallon of which costs $6.30 in California on average, according to AAA. This is the highest in the country at 70 cents. Legislators will pay for the program by adding to California’s $97 billion budget, according to Newsweek.
Colorado residents were expected to pay $400 or $800, depending on their status. but, due to higher government revenue, they will get more. In June, officials announced that single filers will now receive $750 and joint filers $1,500. The money will be paid at the end of August.
Who Qualifies For A $1,400 Stimulus Payment Under The House Bill
Eligible Georgia residents began receiving discounts of $250 to $500 in May. Premiums are based on your deposit status, but even part-time residents can get a reduced rate. Those who filed their taxes by April 18 will receive their payments in early August.
Officials in Hawaii have given a $300 cash payment to residents with incomes up to $100,000 a year and their dependents — that’s $1,200 for a family of four. Hawaii residents with income of $100,000 or more can get even $100. Payments will start at the end of August.
Qualifying Idahoans can expect to pay either $75 or 12 percent of their 2020 state taxes as part of a tax refund program approved by lawmakers in February. Payments began in March and will continue throughout the year.
Indiana lawmakers approved a one-time payment of $125 for qualified taxpayers and $250 for regular taxpayers. The first payment was made in May and is expected to continue through the summer. The state hopes that nearly all eligible residents will receive their paychecks by September 1.

In Maine, about 858,000 residents are slated to receive one of the largest stimulus payments in the country: $850 per eligible Mainer. The state began processing the first round of checks in June and will distribute the remaining funds throughout the year.
