To give it its full name, Harvest Moon. Light of Hope Special Edition Complete – just missing the 2.8 HD Final Chapter Remix – is a re-release of the same game that came out on PC in 2017. As was the basic premise. series, you inherit an old farm and must restore it to its former glory. In this version, you wake up on the beach after a bad storm. Fortunately, a doctor named Jeanne happens upon you lying unconscious in the sand and saves your life. In return, he asks you to take care of the abandoned farm on the island and rebuild the town to bring back its former inhabitants.

This time the town is called Beacon Town because it has a mysterious lighthouse that also stopped working after the storm hit. After a long tutorial where you are taught the ropes of cultivation, stone tablets and learn about the residents’ requests, things finally start to open up. You can choose which buildings and facilities to repair first thanks to the open nature of Harvest Moon. Certain buildings will also continue the story, such as renovating the mines or Doc’s house. The Light of Hope will give you subtle hints on what to build in order to hunt down the next stone tablet, but you can choose to completely ignore the hints and focus on whatever you want. It is also integral to repair those barns where farm animals are kept.
All this compensation work takes time and money, but the best way to earn is to sell as many products as possible. Anything you gather from your harvest, or indeed anything you can forage for when you’re out and about, can and should be sold in the early hours. After using the mines, you can get lucky and find a rare material deposit that can help your bank balance a lot, but to do almost everything in town, money is essential.
Light of Hope also retains much of what has made the Harvest Moon series great for so long; many friendly characters with whom you can form strong friendships and maybe even marry and have children. Accomplishing their requests, usually by giving them special items or simply talking to them, can help improve your relationship with people. Each NPC has a relationship rating consisting of five empty musical notes. the more musical notes are filled in instead of gray, the stronger your relationship with them.

These are unlocked when you repair the necessary buildings, but it’s probably not very well explained what exactly each activity is for. It’s really amazing, especially after a long tutorial, but most of this information is hidden in your bookcase at home. It is not designed to disappoint. in fact, Harvest Moon usually does the opposite and is a relaxing distraction from real life, but elements like not being able to find in the mines, or rain (which immediately closes the town store and your main source of income) will require players to think immediately and re-plan for the next one. the day: Also, don’t expect to get much done on Sunday; this sleepy town pretty much shuts down on this day off.
However, all this works in favor of “Light of Hope”. You can pick things up at your leisure, even avoiding the entire main story if you so desire, and life will go on on the island.
Unlike some recent releases that have been in 3D, Light of Hope returns to a 2D setting. Anyway, anyway. There is a 2D background, but many objects and characters appear in 3D, with a completely different art style. To be honest, it doesn’t work very well. Harvest Moon on PlayStation 2. Playing A Wonderful Life introduced me to Harvest Moon in 3D, and this return to the old style doesn’t work either.

Since this Xbox One version was released several years after its original release on PC and other consoles, being a complete edition now means that all DLC is included. This includes additional jewelry and equipment upgrades, more married characters, and some additional side stories to complete. However, when playing for the first time, this DLC is fully integrated into the main story, so it may not be obvious to new players. However, this is unlikely to be a problem. Including all content after a post-release is always a nice gesture.
Many of Light of Hope’s 28 achievements are story-related, so they’ll naturally unlock through progression until you finally recover all five stone tablets. If you aim solely for that, it shouldn’t take too long to complete the story. Indeed, within the first month in-game for me, I already had three tablets and was on my way to a fourth. But then you’ll have a big gap in terms of unlocking achievements, as many others require you to harvest all kinds of crops and flowers, catch all the fish, and mine all the ores. Most of them are also seasonal. miss any when they’re available and you’ll have to wait until the season rolls around again. But once again, Harvest Moon is in no rush.
For a game that only requires 800MB of space, there’s a lot of game here. For those who have missed their Harvest Moon gameplay fix over the years, or for those new to the series as it makes its full debut on Xbox consoles, Harvest Moon. Light of Hope Special Edition Complete is a very good place to start. It may not quite reach the lofty heights of previous entries, but it contains much of what has made the series so successful over the years. And as the nights draw in, there are few better games to while away the evening with a nice brew and a few cookies.
