How To Make Money On Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 – I didn’t know it at the time, but it turned out that my favorite computer game taught me everything about business, product development, and user experience.
Sam Sawyer developed this game back in 1999, and it wasn’t until recently that I discovered they released RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic for phones and tablets. Let me tell you, this game is even better than I remember. And after playing a few garden scenarios, I started to think about how many useful lessons this game taught me…
How To Make Money On Roller Coaster Tycoon 2
When starting the level players are given several business objectives to achieve in a limited time frame. This ultimately helps you focus your attention and requires a different strategy. Some examples of games include:
Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic Comes To Ios And Android
Key Takeaway: For a business or product to grow, you need to define what success looks like, push the envelope, and then in the next quarter push yourself even harder.
The game gives you an idea of what your park guests think, which proves to be extremely valuable data. It can help answer some of the questions you ask yourself during the game like:
Key Takeaway: You shouldn’t make decisions based on blind assumptions. Obviously we can’t read minds, so you have to go out and ask people what they want and want. It is not only cheap, but also saves valuable time in the long run-allowing you to focus on what is really important.
Building new rides and maintaining a high park rating will attract more guests to your park. But if you want an extra push to reach the 1,000 Guests by Year 2 goal, you will need a marketing strategy to incentivize guests even more. Some options include:
Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe
The key is to make sure you start the campaign early enough. The results will not be immediate.
Key Takeaway: You have to spend money to make money. So don’t get stuck in the mindset that if you start a company, customers or users will come naturally. You need to build brand awareness. You have to get people excited. Sometimes that includes offering free trails or discounted rates for the first few months—it’s time to get people hooked!
Creating a clear and uncomplicated path that gets guests to the ride faster is important. When guests walk around aimlessly, they aren’t spending money and it’s definitely not good for business. Even roads with good flow can benefit from kiosks that sell maps, which help guide visitors to the ride.
Key Takeaway: Clarity and simplicity are essential when providing a seamless user experience. Guide them in the right direction instead of letting them go.
How To Be Successful In Rollercoaster Tycoon Games: 15 Steps
The game does not give you unlimited money, you are given an initial budget and have the option to take out a loan (which costs interest every month like in real life). So you have to be strategic when it comes to what rides and shops to build. As exciting as it is to build that rollercoaster with all the crazy turns and big drops, there are a few reasons why you shouldn’t break the budget for that expensive rollercoaster:
Key Takeaway: Businesses and products need room to grow, especially in the early stages. This means that spending all of your budget up front won’t allow for important changes down the road to attract more people.
The game includes Builders, Mechanics, Security, and Entertainers to keep the park running smoothly. As your park grows, you’ll need to find the sweet spot for how many people you need to hire to meet your park’s needs. For example, when you’re just starting out, hiring a handyman and one mechanic is a lot.
Key Takeaway: We can’t predict the future, but we know it won’t always be perfect. So just be ready to handle the event calmly and on time.
Rollercoaster Tycoon® Classic
The game requires you to wear many hats: business owner, marketer, head of operations, head of research and development, and the list goes on. By taking on each of these roles, you gain control over your garden.
The game gives you the option to build your own rollercoaster from scratch and define things like speed and height. But when building anything new, there’s an added level of risk – in this case it’s safety and the intensity of the ride. The game factors in some basic physics, so you can accidentally make your ride fly off the track or be so powerful that the rider will vomit afterwards. So the way to avoid damaging your park rating is to do a lot of testing before opening the park to guests.
Key Takeaway: Before releasing anything to the public, it’s important to do some heavy testing to troubleshoot. The last thing you want is for people to have a bad experience that could deter them from using your product.
There are several scenarios in the game where you start with a park that already has some rides and visitors, so in some cases the objective is to expand it and in other cases it is to “turn it on”. Some examples include:
How To Win Rollercoaster Tycoon Games: Tycoon Tips And Tricks
Key Takeaway: Although it is good to have a fresh slate when starting a business or working on a project, it is not always the best choice (resource or financial). So how can you work with what you have and still have something that people like? Take a step back, conduct an audit of what is working and what isn’t, and make a plan.
I used to wonder if I wasted too many hours playing video games in my childhood, but I can honestly say that I’m glad I invested that time (at least when it comes to this game). The lessons I learned from RollerCoaster Tycoon are lessons that will stay with me forever.

Now that we’ve covered what to do when starting a scenario, one of the most asked questions is “How do you know what price to sell something for?” Well, the answer is actually the peeps at your amusement park will tell you. Basically, just raise the price until guests start saying they won’t pay.

I have no memories of that fateful day in 1999 when I bought Rollercoaster Tycoon. I don’t remember why I was interested in the game. I was nauseous when I got on the bus, so it’s safe to say I’m not a fan of theme parks. I remember having an obsession with hypercapitalist, cool American style at Disneyland Paris, forever dangled in front of me by ads that
