Meta began inviting all eligible users to the Facebook Reels Play bonus program in May 2022, changing the way creators are compensated for their work on the platform. The program also features incentives called “Challenges,” which offer bigger rewards for posting original content on Facebook reels and reaching a certain number of views.

Currently, the Facebook Reels bonus program is by invitation only. According to Facebook, to be eligible to receive an invitation, you must:

For the most part, it means you have an active account in good standing, however there are a few requirements that may be more difficult to meet: 1) getting more than 100,000 reel views in the last month and 2) having a business profile.

For creators just starting out, we recommend focusing on building your audience by making as many reels as you can and tailoring them to your followers’ interests. If you want to monetize before you hit the 100,000 monthly views mark, consider sponsorships. Brands are more interested in working with micro-influencers who have engaged, engaged audiences than large influencers whose followers never like, share or comment.

Professional Mode is like having a professional Instagram account. It allows you to see audience, post and profile information, such as the number of followers and reactions to what you share on the platform.

If you meet all the requirements of the Reels Play bonus program, how do you start making money? You must first accept your invitation to the program.

Open Facebook on a computer or mobile device and go to Creator Studio. A notification should appear inviting you to apply to the program. Click Start to begin the integration process.

If you meet all the eligibility requirements but have not received an invitation, you can also submit a request. Go to the Meta for Creators: Bonuses page and log in to your Facebook account.

Scroll down until you see “Express Bonus Interest”. This should be an editable form that will display all Pages and profiles associated with the account you are logged into. Select which account you wish to apply for the Reels Play bonus program with and fill in the required information as well as any optional information you wish to include.

After submitting the form, you will receive a confirmation from Meta and, if you meet the other eligibility requirements described above, you will receive your invitation within two weeks. If you don’t see a push notification or it doesn’t pop up when you sign in to the app, go to Creator Studio and click on the Monetization tab in the left side menu. Any active invites will be visible on the Monetization home page.

For many creators, their approach to creating video content can vary significantly depending on the social media platform, which can make getting started on a new platform difficult. Fortunately, Meta has shared a number of tips and best practices for Facebook Reels:

Initially, Facebook claimed that creators enrolled in the program can earn up to $35,000 per month based on the views their eligible reels receive, however recent invitees to the program see a cap of $1,200/month, which is a significant change. In a May 2022 update, Facebook also broke the news that Facebook Reels creators can earn bonuses by completing “challenges.”

We expect the payment model to continue to change as Facebook invites more creators into the program and works through feedback to improve it.

Challenges are issued on a monthly cycle, meaning a creator will revert to challenge #1 at the end of the 30 day period. Earnings from the Play bonus program challenges are limited to $4,000 per month.

For invited creators, the Facebook Reels Play bonus program is potentially a great way to increase the visibility of your content and earn money while doing it. The program is just getting started, with more exciting features to come. Soon, creators will be able to post reels from Facebook to Instagram and vice versa, and generate more revenue through overlay ads.
