How To Make Money With A Facebook App – Short-form, vertical video content consistently outperforms other video content on social media. The rise of TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts is proof (or perhaps the catalyst) of this. But these are not the only players in the game.
Meta launched Facebook Reels in 2021 and is gaining popularity. As with any platform or format where creators spend a lot of time and effort, the question of monetization has become relevant. Many creators and influencers rely on sponsored content and e-commerce (selling physical or digital products) to monetize their videos. But it’s no secret that video platforms are vying for creators’ attention with monetization programs.

And Facebook Reels recently joined the fray with the Reels Play bonus program. In this article, we’ll discuss what the Facebook Reels Play bonus program is, how to get started, and how much you can win.
How To Get Paid For Reels On Facebook
Meta began inviting all eligible users to the Facebook Reels Play bonus program in May 2022, changing the way creators are compensated for their work on the platform. The program also features incentives called “Challenges,” which offer bigger rewards for posting original content on Facebook reels and reaching a certain number of views.
Currently, the Facebook Reels bonus program is by invitation only. According to Facebook, to be eligible to receive an invitation, you must:
Phew, that’s a lot of requirements to meet. What does all this mean clearly? For the most part, it means you have an active account in good standing, however there are a few requirements that may be more difficult to meet: 1) getting more than 100,000 reel views in the last month and 2) having a business profile.
For creators just starting out, we recommend focusing on building your audience by making as many reels as you can and tailoring them to your followers’ interests. If you want to monetize before you hit the 100,000 monthly views mark, consider sponsorships. Brands are more interested in working with micro-influencers who have engaged, engaged audiences than large influencers whose followers never like, share or comment.
How To Make Money On Facebook: Quick, Easy And Effective Ways
If it’s available to you, you may see a pop-up notification when you sign in to the desktop app or website, inviting you to turn on Professional mode. You’ll also be able to find the option to enable Professional mode in the three-dot menu on your profile. Not only is this required for the Reels Play bonus program, but it also comes with some really useful tools.
Professional Mode is like having a professional Instagram account. It allows you to see audience, post and profile information, such as the number of followers and reactions to what you share on the platform.
Enabling professional mode also means that your page will become public for anyone to view and follow. You will still be able to make certain posts available only to friends.
If you meet all the requirements of the Reels Play bonus program, how do you start making money? You must first accept your invitation to the program.
Facebook Supports Small And Local Businesses Amid Coronavirus
Open Facebook on a computer or mobile device and go to Creator Studio. A notification should appear inviting you to apply to the program. Click Start to begin the integration process.
If you meet all the eligibility requirements but have not received an invitation, you can also submit a request. Go to the Meta for Creators: Bonuses page and log in to your Facebook account.
Scroll down until you see “Express Bonus Interest”. This should be an editable form that will display all Pages and profiles associated with the account you are logged into. Select which account you wish to apply for the Reels Play bonus program with and fill in the required information as well as any optional information you wish to include.
After submitting the form, you will receive a confirmation from Meta and, if you meet the other eligibility requirements described above, you will receive your invitation within two weeks. If you don’t see a push notification or it doesn’t pop up when you sign in to the app, go to Creator Studio and click on the Monetization tab in the left side menu. Any active invites will be visible on the Monetization home page.
Facebook Tightens Rules On Who Can Make Money From Ads
For many creators, their approach to creating video content can vary significantly depending on the social media platform, which can make getting started on a new platform difficult. Fortunately, Meta has shared a number of tips and best practices for Facebook Reels:
Initially, Facebook claimed that creators enrolled in the program can earn up to $35,000 per month based on the views their eligible reels receive, however recent invitees to the program see a cap of $1,200/month, which is a significant change. In a May 2022 update, Facebook also broke the news that Facebook Reels creators can earn bonuses by completing “challenges.”
We expect the payment model to continue to change as Facebook invites more creators into the program and works through feedback to improve it.
Challenges are presented using a level system, where the current challenge must be completed to unlock the next one, which offers a more challenging task with a greater reward.
How Facebook Makes Money: Business Model Explained
For example, the first challenge could be to land 100 games each on 5 of your reels, which would win you $20. The next challenge would be to get 20 of your reels to 500 plays each, which would win you $100.
Challenges are issued on a monthly cycle, meaning a creator will revert to challenge #1 at the end of the 30 day period. Earnings from the Play bonus program challenges are limited to $4,000 per month.
For invited creators, the Facebook Reels Play bonus program is potentially a great way to increase the visibility of your content and earn money while doing it. The program is just getting started, with more exciting features to come. Soon, creators will be able to post reels from Facebook to Instagram and vice versa, and generate more revenue through overlay ads.

Julia Enthoven February 18, 2020 Facebook is not a monopoly, but with more than 3 billion users worldwide on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, it has a dominant market presence among social media and messaging tools. Facebook’s massive user penetration worldwide is what makes it such a valuable company. However, when it comes to Facebook’s business model and how it makes money, users pay nothing to Facebook. At least not immediately.
Facebook makes money primarily by serving ads from advertisers on the Facebook and Instagram apps. Ads accounted for 98% of Facebook’s $86 billion in revenue in 2020. The remaining 2% of revenue came primarily from the sale of Oculus and Portal devices, as well as developer fees.
How To Make Facebook Reels That Attract An Audience
But why not let Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg explain Facebook’s business model himself with a simple sentence in the video below 😉.
Facebook’s business model is based on offering its tools and services mostly for free to billions of users and then making money by allowing businesses to show ads to Facebook users. Advertisers pay Facebook the price determined in an auction, based on demand and supply.
This means that the people who use Facebook’s services (users) are not the ones who pay Facebook for it. Real customers are mostly small businesses that advertise on some of the Facebook family of apps. Facebook’s focus on small businesses became an even more prominent part of Facebook’s strategy as it introduced the first version of its e-commerce tools called Facebook Shops.
Facebook is not the first nor the last company with a similar business model. However, Facebook is a great example that this business model is not without problems when the interests of users and customers (advertisers) do not align.

Over the years, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder, CEO and one-man controlling shareholder, has aggressively transformed Facebook from a small project founded in his college dorm room into a social media giant.
But the same aggressive approach that propelled Facebook to the top, combined with inherent issues in its business model, also appears to be one reason why Facebook’s success has been tainted by so much embarrassing private data.
